History of Gandhi Stadium

Gandhi Stadium was constructed in 1955. Since then, it has been the playground for two domestic Indian cricket houses: Punjab (1952 – 2000) and North Zone (1961 – 1979). After the establishment of Mohali Cricket Ground outside Chandigarh in 1993, the probability of international matches being organized at Gandhi Stadium decreased.

However, the stadium has been demolished and being reconstructed into an international level stadium. The construction was put on a halt due to certain legal bindings. After a few months, the creation was resumed. As of now, there are no matches being held due to the refurbishment of the main pitch, but young cricket aspirers do come to practice.
