This Ottoman mosque is another of the stunning works of imperial Mimar Sinan, with various intricate details and designs all over.
The mosque was built for Rustem Pasha after his death in 1561, and took two years to complete. The mosque is primarily made with granite and marble, and the domes and the colonnade structure are very well pronounced. The interiors, like many other Ottoman buildings are adorned with colourful patterns made from several Iznik tiles. Entire walls are covered with these tiles in floral and geometric designs. The mihrab and the mimbar themselves are covered in beautiful patterns. Since it is not an imperial mosque, it only has a single minaret standing with a conical top. The mosque today houses a religious school. Though it is not very big in size, it is definitely one of the most gorgeous mosques in Istanbul.
