City Hall, Guyana Overview

Built in neo-Gothic style, City Hall is one of the prominent buildings of Georgetown offering its visitors a peek into its colonial past.

Built in 1868, City Hall is a distinctive 19th century structure that today dominates the skyline of Georgetown with its 75 m high towering spire and neo-Gothic architecture and colonial facade. The was planned by the famous European architect Igantius Scholes and later in 1995 was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. This striking building was the place where the colonial-period wives were said to watch out for their husbands' ships to come into port.
