Chureito Pagoda, Fujikawaguchiko Overview
The five-storey pagoda with Fuji behind it is the most photographed composition in Japan, and almost nobody mentions what it actually is: a memorial to the local war dead, built as a pagoda only because national park rules would not allow a shrine-style building. It is a ten-minute walk from Shimoyoshida station, not Kawaguchiko, and there is a climb.
