Steeped in rich past, culture and heritage, Davanagere is a place to witness the beautiful architectural marvels. Linked to many Chalukya Dynasty and Tipu Sultan, this place today is best known for its cotton mills and thus often referred to as the 'Manchester of East'.
Located in the heart of the state of Karnataka, it lies on the National Highway 4 and well connected to neighbouring cities and states. According to the local tales, the place derived its name from a lake called 'Davina Kere' which was used by the Chalkya's to quench their thirst during their long journey.
Over time, the name evolved to Davan Giri and finally to 'Davangere' or 'Davanagere'. Today it is a major trading port of cotton, chickpea, maize and other commercial crops. The city is selected as one of the hundred cities in India, to be developed as a smart city.
