Liberty Bridge, Budapest Overview
Liberty Bridge is a popular tourist destination and a perfect spot to take in the beautiful views of the Danube River and the city.Located in the center part of the city, the bridge connects Buda and Pest, two parts of the city divided by the Danube River.
The construction of Liberty Bridge started in 1894, and it was opened to the public in 1896, in honor of the thousand-year anniversary of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin. The bridge was originally named Franz Joseph Bridge after the emperor of Austria-Hungary, but it was renamed Liberty Bridge after World War II to reflect Hungary's newly gained independence.
