Belgaum, also known as Belagavi, is a city in the state of Karnataka. Located on the northern foothills of the Western Ghats, Belgaum city serves as the Administrative headquarters of Belgaum District which shares its borders with the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Goa. It is situated at a distance of 505 km from Bangalore and Mumbai, and just 100 km from Panjim, Goa.
Belgaum is also known as Kunda Nagari for the famous sweet confectionary, Kunda, made from Milk and Sugar. The foundation stone of Belgaum was laid in the 12th Century, and the city has been growing ever since. It was proposed to be made the second capital of Karnataka with the second state administrative building Suvarna Vidhana Soudha which was inaugurated on 11 October 2012.
Belgaum has a plethora of experiences that include exploring the beautiful Kamal Basti, the rushed shopping in Khade Bazaar and Ganpati Galli, Street food hunting near Ramdev Circle and the long rides to Tilari, Amboli, Sundi (Mahipalgad) and Jamboti. Dandeli is 86 km from Belgaum and provides the folks visiting Belgaum with adventure water sports. The region of Belgaum has a pleasant climate throughout the year due to the right distance from the nearest sea (Arabian Sea) and the hills that surround Belgaum and block the heat waves from the sea.
