The centre of the La Barcelonata has a small museum called "Casa de la Barceloneta", housed in a preserved building dating back to 1791. The place was constructed for the residents of the Ribera neighbourhood in the 18th century and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, the Moll d'Espanya of Port Vell, and the El Born neighbourhood. Locals head to the seaside neighbourhood to surf and sunbathe on Sant Sebastià Beach and dine at alfresco seafood restaurants and traditional tapas bars. Posh yachts fill glitzy marinas like the Port Olímpic complex, connected to the beach by a long, palm-lined promenade. The area has many attractions worth visiting, like the Museu d'Història de Catalunya or Barcelona's clock tower, formerly built as a lighthouse in 1772 and is the oldest structure in La Barceloneta. It was once the home of fishermen, people associated with the fishing trade and the metal industry.
