Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, Bangkok Overview
Lumpinee Boxing Stadium is Bangkok's other major Muay Thai venue, distinct from the city's better-known Rajadamnern Stadium and run instead by the Royal Thai Army's Welfare Department. Founded in 1956 near Lumphini Park, it relocated in 2014 to a larger, purpose-built arena inside the Royal Thai Army Sports Centre on Ram Inthra Road, Bang Khen. The 5,000-seat venue holds its own championship titles from mini flyweight to super welterweight, staged its first women's fight card in 2021, and has hosted ONE Championship events since 2022 alongside regular weekly Muay Thai bouts.
Opened on 8 December 1956 by Maj. Gen. Praphas Charusathien, Lumpinee was Thailand's second national Muay Thai stadium, named for the nearby Lumphini Park. Its original Rama IV Road venue hosted decades of championship bouts, including Pone Kingpetch's 1960 world title fight, before overcrowding pushed the stadium to relocate. The current arena, inside the Royal Thai Army Sports Centre on Ram Inthra Road, opened in February 2014 with a 5,000-seat capacity. Muay Thai fight nights run Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with proceeds supporting Thai Army welfare programs. The stadium also hosts MMA and ONE Championship cards.
