Old Adelaide Gaol, Adelaide Overview
Built in 1841 and in use until 1988, which makes it one of the longest-serving prisons in Australia. Around 300 people were held here at its peak and 45 were executed and buried inside the walls. You can walk the cell blocks and the exercise yards unaccompanied, and there are guided tours and night tours if you want the full account. Entry is now from Port Road through Bonython Park.
Adelaide is an instant hit among history buffs because of the architecture and the aesthetical marvel that it has to offer to the tourists. In addition to the churches, one should definitely visit the Old Adelaide Gaol which was built in the colonial times.
