Nehru Garden, Udaipur Overview

Constructed in an Island at the heart of Fateh Sagar Lake, Nehru Garden encloses many distinct water fountains resembling those in Brindavan Gardens of Mysore. Another major attraction of the garden is a floating restaurant, in a boat shape.

History

Nehru Garden is located amidst Fateh Sagar Lake. It showcases assorted varieties of plants, trees, and birds. Maharana Jai Singh was the first one to compose the lake. 200 years later,  Maharana Fatah Singh reconstructed it as a result of the floods washing away the earthen bund around the lake. The Duke of Connaught, the third son of Queen Victoria had laid the foundation for the latest construction.  Nehru Garden was named after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. It was inaugurated on his birth anniversary, the 14th of November, 1967. Nehru Garden is an oval-shaped island.

Architecture

Nehru Garden faces the famous 'Moti Mahal' of Maharana Pratap. It is spread across an area of 4.5 acres. The garden comprises of flower gardens and a lily pond. There are water fountains that resemble those in the  Brindavan Gardens of Mysore that also beautify the park. The water fountains are pyramid-shaped and are of a channel type.

In the north-west corner of the park, there lies a boat-shaped floating restaurant. It is one of the major attractions of the garden and one can have some delicious food at the side of the lake. There is an abundance of Flora plantations found in the garden. The tourists can reach this park by boats.

Timings and Entry

The timings of the garden are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The garden is only accessible through a boat ride. At the entrance, there are a few statues to welcome the guests to the garden. For Indians, the fees are  ₹ 30 per person for adults and ₹ 15 per person for children. For foreigners, it is ₹ 125 per person for adults and ₹ 60 per person for children.
