Chetak Circle, Udaipur Overview

One of the prominent shopping hubs of the ‘City of Lakes’, Chetak Circle is a perfect combination of tucked up cosy shops strewn about with colourful apparels and fabrics, and roadside stalls selling mouth watering street food and sweetmeats. The highlight of the market is however, the brightly coloured and clothed puppets which are also synonymous with the traditional folk shows of Rajasthan. These puppets, both mustachioed men and dolled up women are adorned in traditional Rajasthani attires from bandhani odhnis to turbans to make them look even more appealing.

Other than that, the popular items being sold at Chetak Circle include folk toys, fabrics painted by hand, tie and dye sarees, silver jewellery and miniature paintings etc. Paintings, which are made on ivory, marble, wood and silk depict Hindu gods and goddesses from the ancient mythologies and these are the among the most sold out products in the market. Other items range from greeting cards, valuable stones, wooden boxes, handstitched papers to brass wares and traditional jewellery boxes etc. However, keep in mind that bargaining is an essential skill required to shop in the market. The goods are deliberately priced high so as to bluff the customers. Therefore, make sure you price the product appropriately before you decide to settle on any one.
