This is India's first titled domed planetarium and has been doing an impeccable job at not only educating the people in the diverse subject of astronomy but also keeping them acquainted with the latest evolutions in the field.

The Priyadarshini Planetarium opens you up to a world of science and the mysteries of the universe like never before. The auditorium is equipped with an advanced GM-11 starfield projector that, believe it or not, can simulate the star-studded sky from any location on the entire planet, of any given time and on any day 12500 years in the past or 12500 years into the future! This planetarium has given many a chance to experience the wonders of Virtual Reality without being constricted to a device. The Priyadarshini Planetarium hosts show in Malayalam and English where the people are introduced to the magical world of outer space. Not only has this helped build a scientific temperament in the minds of the children, but also satiated the ever-increasing curiosity about how the universe actually is.

Priyadarshini Planetarium Show & Timings

The shows that run at the Priyadarshini Planetarium are your sneak peak into the galaxies and milky ways that lie above you. The most popular show played at the Priyadarshini Planetarium is 'Man and the Universe'. This show enlightens you of how man has progressed through the field of astronomy and the many revelations he has encountered along the way. Be prepared to have your mind blown when they introduce you to the landscapes and atmospheres of different planets and stars in our solar system and demonstrate how the universe was created! The auditoriums are actually full dome theatres that are fully air-conditioned, allows end to end projections that mimic reality, are equipped with impeccable surround-sound speakers and are designated sound studios.

These shows are run in two languages- English and Malayalam. There are more shows played in Malayalam at 10:30 AM, 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. There is only one show that is played in English, and it is run at 12:00 PM each working day.

You will also find many outdoor exhibits like model rockets and aeroplanes once you come out of the show. Watching the show will change the outlook with which you observe these exhibits. Be sure to examine every minute detail of these incredible models.

There is also a designated sky observatory open to visitors on Thursdays and Fridays from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Other main attractions here are the many 3D and 6D shows, the thrillarium, the children's park, laser shows played every evening and the very famous musical fountain.

Priyadarshini Planetarium Ticket Price

Children (between 3 years and 10 years): INR 40 per person
Adult (11 years or older): INR 75 per person

For an organized group of children or students, the discounted ticket rate is INR 30 per person.

The ticket rates for the Night Sky Observatory are INR 20 per adult and INR 15 per child.
For other 3D and 6D shows, the ticket rates are INR 25 per adult and INR 15 per child.
If you want to catch the Laser show at 7:00 PM or witness the beauty of the Musical Fountain, you have to be a nominal rate of INR 30 per adult and INR 20 per child.

How To Reach Priyadarshini Planetarium

The Priyadarshini Planetarium is very close to the city centre and sits right at the PMG Junction in Palayam. Finding a cab or an auto rickshaw in the city that will take you to the planetarium will not be an issue at all, and you should make it to the planetarium in about 20-30 minutes.

If you wish to opt for public transport, you can take a bus to KSRTC Depot or the PMG Junction Bus Stop, which are both at less than 10-minute walking distance from the planetarium.
