Kalibari Temple , Thane Overview

The Kalibari Temple (also known as Kalibari Mandir) in Thane West, Mumbai is sacred spot of worship in honor of the Goddess Kali, a deity belonging to the Hindu religion. The temple, with a structure that resembles that of ancient temples in Orissa was established by a community of Bengali families. One must grasp the opportunity of viewing the exquisite black statue of Goddess Kali, fashioned to perfection placed prominently at the center of the temple. This statue is usually adorned with bright colourful lights and fragrant flower garlands. Pooja and Aarti at the Temple

Amabasya Poojas, Satyanarayan Poojas, Laxmi Poojas, Saraswati Poojas are all prayers  conducted for special festivities at the Kalibari temple. You may visit the temple’s official website for further information such as dates and timings of the same, which change on an annual basis.

The temple’s foundation day is commemorated on May 17, by distributing supplies such as food and clothing to the needy.  Special prayers such as those for birthdays and Shradh ceremonies (death anniversaries) among others, are conducted by the Priest in charge of the temple upon request.

History of Kalibari Temple

Initially a spot chosen by Bengali families to celebrate the annual Sri Sri Saraswati Pooja, the Kalibari Temple was established and made available for public access in 1996. A statue of Goddess Kali, handcrafted in Kolkata was positioned in the temple on May 17, 2002. As a result May 17th is identified as the temple’s foundation day.

The Kalibari Temple is located at C/o Sommeloni Kalibari Bengali Education Trust, Vartak Nagar, Thane West – 400 606. Bramhan Vidyalaya / Ayappa Temple can be referred to as landmarks.
