Food culture in Tasmania is very lively, with tons and tons of fresh produce markets, as well as cheap eateries and a plethora of street vendors. This is not to say there are no high-end restaurants, because there are plenty. Tasmania is also known for it's elegant wine culture, with a collection of great wineries and cellars.

The island has a decent collection of Indian restaurants, some of them extremely good as well. Places like The Saffron, Mother India, Kathmandu Cuisine, and the Tandoor and Curry House, all in Hobart, are very highly regarded. Annapurna, which has two outlets in Hobart, is a very great option for those looking for vegetarian or vegan food.
