One of the best examples of Dutch architecture in Surabaya, the Balai Pemuda or the Youth Hall of Surabaya is an important historical building of the city.
The Balai Pemuda was originally built as a community hall for all the Dutch colonial settlers. This imposing structure now serves as a cultural centre, with information booths, festivals and marriages taking place in its inner halls. You can find a lot of communities or group of dancers, singers or bands practising here. It also houses a small tourist information booth where you can find some helpful information about the city, free maps and brochures. A beautiful example of Dutch architecture, this hall is popularly known for its festivals, most of which are held in June.
