Ghoramara Island is one of the tiny islands of the Sundarban delta, 92km south of Kolkata. The island is a victim of global warming, soil erosion and the ever-rising water-levels of the Bay of Bengal - and is shrinking at exorbitant rates.
Over the last 10 years, the population of the disappearing island has reduced from 7000 to 3000 residents as of 2016. It has recently become a tourist attraction because of these unfortunate, yet thrilling, circumstances challenging survival. Money spent here may benefit the residents who cannot afford to relocate currently.
