More on Raichak

A town full of charms

Situated on the banks of river Hoogli, about 50 km from Kolkatta, Raichak is a perfect getaway from the bustling city life of Kolkatta. Raichak has some of the most beautiful and serene views of the mighty river Ganges. The glistening river at the time of sunrise and sunset, rows of the country boat sailing down the river, is a sight which is so calming and tranquil.

The small and charming town of Raichak has a lot to offer. Every corner is full of surprises here. The magnificent ruins of Forts from the British and Dutch eras take you back in the history. The ruins, the calming water and the lanes of Raichak are where you would want to get lost in. Apart from the history, Raichak offers some of the most delicious Bengali cuisines.

One Day Itinerary

One of the best things about Raichak is that it gives you the luxury of a holiday in its true essence- without having to run all over the place to see everything. The Radisson Fort is the most beautiful and prime tourist attraction. The fort has been converted into a hotel, so even if you don't stay here because of the steep tariffs, you can always have your meals here and explore the place thoroughly.

The Diamond Harbour is the next most attractive place. Hire a cab in the morning, go to the site, enjoy the harbour, visit the Chingrihkali Fort, see the lighthouse, the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram at your leisure pace and then drive back in the evening. The next day you can probably relax by river Hooghly, enjoy a boat ride or a jetty ride and leave on sunset.

Stayed at the Ganga Kutir here. Beautiful place. The F Fort resort has some nice restaurants and good set of activities. Ideal for a 1-2 day trip from Kolkata. Getting there is a pain though. The road from Kolkata to raichak is narrow and crowded. Not a pleasant drive.
