Lady Hydari Park, Shillong Overview

Located conveniently in the Laban area in Shillong is the popular Lady Hydari Park, named after the first lady of the state and wife of the Governor of Assam, Lady Hydari. The first thing that catches your eye when you set foot in this park is that it is built in the form of a Japanese style garden. The vibes get stronger when you catch a glimpse of the round-shaped hedges, willow trees with leaves touching the ground as well as the many scattered small ponds. There is also a small lake where one can find ducks and colourful fishes.

Tourists of all age groups visit the beautiful Lady Hydari park and stroll on the paved walkways in the evenings, exploring and admiring the beautifully manicured lawns with an alluring collection of orchids and rhododendrons. During winters, one can visit the park during the afternoon and relax in the lawn area. It is an ideal place to visit with children because there is a nice playing area for them. The museum and the mini zoo inside the park premises makes for a good learning experience. Lady Hydari Park apart from strolling around provides a lot of photography opportunities as well as boating activities.

Children's park: The park has a playful kid's zone where one can always spot school children in uniforms with lit-up faces playing around. There are swings and slides. School kids are often brought to this park for educational tours.
 
Zoo: There is a small zoo inside the park premises which houses various animals such as Himalayan black bear, leopard, jackal, porcupine, serow, hornbills, kites etc. The main attraction of the zoo is that it is home to a fair population of serow and deer. Since there are no other zoos in Shillong, one can always find this place crowded. 

Museum: Another interesting spot in Lady Hydari park is the small museum which displays photographs about the rare species of wildlife and exhibits such as elephant skills, dried skin of a giant python etc. The museum is built with the objective to highlight the state's rich biodiversity. 

Gardens and Butterfly Park: The gardens make up the most beautiful portions of the park and are the perfect spots to relax and have a small picnic. There are carefully pruned flowers planted in the lush green lawns that provide a wonderful sight to behold. 

Pools: There are multiple pools in the park. One can spot ducks and fishes in them. The lower pool in the park is a major attraction of the park. One can spot graceful swans floating along. It is a good place for photography.

How To Reach Lady Hydari Park

The park is located in Laban near the Crinoline Falls. It is located only 2 kilometres from the Police Bazaar, from where one can easily walk down. One can also take a taxi for the same.
