Section 1 is the original Petaling Jaya, laid out in the 1950s for families resettled from Kuala Lumpur, and it still looks it: low shophouses, five-foot ways, a wet market. The reason to come is the food along Jalan Othman, where the hawker stalls have been run by the same families for decades. It is the opposite end of the city from the malls, in every sense.
