Pasikuda is Sri Lankan resort town situated on the fringes of the Indian Ocean. Pasikuda is renowned for the stunning Pasikuda Beach with its sparkling blue waters. This little beach town has a shallow coastline which is one of the longest in the world. One can wade for considerable distances into the ocean due to the reasonably weak currents here. The coastal reefs enhance the beauty of the beach.
Although Pasikuda faced huge losses after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the Sri Lankan Civil War that ended in 2009, it has rapidly recovered its charm after extensive efforts by the Sri Lankan government and investors alike. Scuba-diving and snorkelling at Pasikuda Beach are very common; these activities allow tourists to see the coral communities up close. One can also try water sports such as windsurfing and waterskiing, or even an offbeat pastime like kite flying.
Besides the beach, Pasikuda is close to attractions of historical and religious significance. The Mari Amman temple at Pasikuda is around seven centuries old and frequently visited by locals. The Batticaloa Dutch Fort, Batticaloa Lagoon, and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa are some distance away from the town.
In a nutshell—Pasikuda is the best destination in Sri Lanka for a beautiful beachside holiday.
