Wenlock Downs

At Wenlock Downs, people can explore the beautiful natural landscapes. The grasslands with colourful wildflowers have patches of forests filled with stunted tropical trees. These forests are also known as Shola Forests which are a characteristic feature of Wenlock Downs. They grow in the valleys of the rolling mountains in between the vast expanses of the lush green grasslands. Visitors can hike through them, go on a leisurely nature walk or go horse riding. Some would find it exciting to climb over the mountains to get a stunning view of the surroundings that include the Nilgiris and the backwaters of Pykara.

The part of Wenlock Downs at six and nine miles (distance from Ooty), in particular, are considered to be the best locations on the entire landscape. These sections have the best natural landscape and a stunning backdrop of the mountains and the skies. So, those looking for a point to make videos or capture beautiful pictures with family and friends can head to these locations. While there, one could also come across some vendors selling some local snacks. Or they can pack a lunch and have a good picnic in the meadows. The developed regions around Wenlock Downs also have some good restaurants where visitors can have a decent meal and rest for a while.

There are some more places that can be visited along with Wenlock Downs. For Example, The Hindustan Photo Films Company, the Government Sheep Farm, the Ootacamund Gymkhana Golf Club, Suraj Palace, Ooty Lake and the Kamaraj Sagar Dam. These attractions are located either in Pykara or in Ooty or they lie somewhere in between. They can be explored in a day or two depending on how long one wants to hang around at one location. Preparing an itinerary is much recommended to make the most of the trip.
