Bethany Baptist Church, Newark Overview
Founded by a small group of African-American in 1870, Bethany Baptist Church is housed in a Romanesque Style Building, which was constructed back in 1866. The group was officially sanctioned as an independent church in 1871, under the leadership of Reverend Ebenezer Bird. This church is one of the first Baptist Congregations founded by Africans.
