Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, Narita Overview

A Shingon temple founded in 940 and one of the most visited in Japan, built around a fire ritual to Fudo Myoo that is performed several times a day in the main hall with drums and burning cedar. You can walk in and watch it free. The complex is far older than it first looks: the three-storied pagoda dates from 1712 and the Niomon gate from 1830, both Important Cultural Properties, while the big halls are modern.
