An 800 metre approach street sloping down from the temple to the station, lined with wooden shopfronts, pickle sellers, sweet shops and eel restaurants that fillet and grill in the window. Unagi is the genuine local speciality here rather than a tourist invention, and lunchtime queues form. You will walk this street anyway on the way up from the train, so allow time for it.
