"First Capital of Modern Greece"

Nafplio Tourism

Nafplio is a coastal town located in the Eastern Peloponnese area of Greece, about 150 kms away from Athens. Nafplio is known for its neoclassical architecture, cosy streets, and historical and cultural significance. With historical houses, squares and churches, narrow cobbled alleys, and quaint tavernas Nafplio is Greeceƍs most popular romantic getaway. Designated as the Greek capital, briefly, before Athens Nafplio is significant both politically and historically.

The small settlement of Nafplio is a perfect escape from the hustling bustling of a city. Apart from three fortresses including one at the harbour, Nafplio is also home to an archaeological museum, a komboloi (worry beads) museum and a folk museum. There is also a UNESCO site down the road along with a beach. But, most of the people coming to Nafplio come here to enjoy the relaxed pace of the city. They simply stroll through the italian-style stone streets, stopping off at cute cafes and tavernas while looking at some family-run boutique shops. A walk to Arvanitia beach on a beautiful seaside path, from the harbour, is one of the top most things to do in Nafplio. A scenic hike from Arvanitia beach to Karathona beach is a must-do as well. To look for more things to do one can take a day trip to Tolo, a nearby resort town.
