St. George's Hall, Liverpool Overview

It is one of the most famous buildings in Liverpool. A perfect example of Greco Roman architecture, this was built in 1854 and Queen Victoria once remarked that is was worthy of ancient Athens. The Hall is located on a plateau on Lime Street.

Directly opposite to the Lime Street Station, St George's Hall is located at the heart of Liverpool. It is regarded as one of the best neo classical buildings in the entire world and is now a Grade 1 listed building. It is 169 ft long and 74 ft wide hall that has a tunnel vaulted ceiling. it is considered to be the largest of its kind in Europe. The ceiling has some figures that portray the qualities of Victorian Liverpool: Art, fortitude, justice and science. The hall is home to one of the greatest brick arches in the world and has a priceless mosaic floor with 30000 tiles. There is also a heritage centre.
