Buddha Statue, Kurnool Overview

Buddha Statue is a majestic white statue with a hillock behind it with 'Belum Caves' written on it. It is situated in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Buddha Statue is an example of some of the best Buddhist as well as Jain remains. It is a beautiful and attractive proof of the contributions which have been made by the monks towards these caves. This statue is situated near a village named Kolimigundla, and the bypass road leads to Tadipatri.

Buddha Statue located in Kurnool is of a height of 40 ft. It was built by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) and had a budget of nearly 10 Lakh. Its beauty attracts a huge number of visitors from all over the country. The statue was made public in the year 2005.

It is a very famous landmark and visitors passing by generally stop here to get themselves clicked with the attraction. If one includes the height of the pedestal on which the statue is placed, and the lotus which surrounds the base of the statue, the total height of the statue amounts to be 60 ft.

The base of the statue consists of a lotus which also has a huge room within but does not have such a good condition. Earlier, the Lotus had doors guarding it which are no longer in working condition and have come off. The Lotus at first was planned to house a rock museum and to showcase rocks available locally, minerals and meteorites but this project never moved towards a practical implementation. It is worth visiting, and whosoever visits Kurnool should pay a visit to this place.

The nearest airport is Begumpet Airport which lies at a distance of 199 km. Kurnool is well connected to the railway stations in the main cities and the nearest ones include that of Gazulapalli, Nagarur and Kosgi. One can easily hire a cab or take a ride via a local bus to reach the statue.
