Istanbul Modern, Istanbul Overview

Also known as Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, Istanbul Modern was the country’s first museum that housed different forms of contemporary art. The museum was opened to the public in 11th December of 2004 and has hosted several art galleries and functions. Not only does it showcase the finest works of Turkish artists of the past, but also give a platform to upcoming Turkish artists by providing the best public space for display of their art. The museum also hosts a number of cultural activities and festivals to promote artists and raise funds for the museum.

Located in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul, Istanbul Modern is more than just a museum. The Istanbul Modern Cafe and Restaurant gives a wide range of Turkish as well as Continental Menu, along with giving beautiful views of the Asian side of the city. The top floor also consists of permanent displays and halls for educational programs. A souvenir shop sells various paintings, t-shirts, mugs and jewellery that can make a perfect souvenir for your trip here.

The Istanbul Modern Cinema plays several shows and documentaries that showcase the history of art in Turkey for art and history lovers. There is also a library here, the Istanbul Modern Library, which consists of over 9000 collections of books and papers that have been preserved for over a decade.
