Gundulic square, Dubrovnik Overview

Gundulic Square is the host of a famous morning vegetable and fruit market. Located just behind Dubrovnik’s cathedral, the square has beautiful buildings, restaurants, and various shops. It is also popular during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and other gatherings, concerts, and performances.

At the centre of it all lies the monument of the 18th-century poet Ivan Gundulić, sculpted around the 19th century by Ivan Rendić. The best time to visit the square is in the mornings when the various fruits and vegetable sellers enliven the square with fresh, colourful and vibrant offerings. In the afternoons and late evenings, the place is almost deserted and those who can, enjoy the beautiful solitude and peace it offers.
