More on Deoghar

Deoghar is a spiritual abode, situated in the state of Jharkhand. Although there are many a spiritual destination for the devout Hindus flocking to this pilgrimage, the most popular one is, without a doubt, the Baba Baidyanath Dham, a pilgrimage dedicated to the famous Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. It is also the abode of one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
Although millions of devotees and tourists flock this site annually, Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar becomes the most famous during the Shravan month of the Hindu Lunar Calendar, when millions of devotees bring holy water for the Linga in Pitchers called Kanwads, and hence known as Kanwariyas, to perform the holy ritual of Rudrabhishek [The Holy Bath] in this holy month.

The food here is dominated by vegetarian dishes. One can also enjoy a number of Bihari snacks available in the area. Other than that you will find instances of the state cuisine such as Bamboo shoots, Rugra, Kanda, Mahua, Arsa Roti, Dubhni Roti and much more.

Day 1 - Reach Deoghar, preferably by noon and take some rest. In the evening, you can go to the main market for a stroll, where you can buy precious curios and souvenirs, especially the holy memorabilia of the Baidyanath Dham that you can take home for your families.
Day 2 - The 2nd day should be the ideal time for starting your trip through Baidyanath Dham, barely 2 km away from the town of Deoghar.
Day 3 - This day should ideally be reserved for a rest. However, if you wish to have an insight of the whole town, you can visit the Naulakha Mandir for the start. Thereon, you can proceed for a trekking spree to the Trikuta Parvat, or if you prefer to do some soul searching and religious study, go for Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapeeth.
