Originally a Roman town, Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica. Claimed to be the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, the mountains with lush green woods and the port and citadel as one proceeds towards the sea make Ajaccio an all-year destination for tourists.
One can visit the house where he was born which is now a museum, find various statues and places named in his honour. Ajaccio includes the Place Bonaparte, the cathedral, Rue Cardinal Fesch and continues up to and around Place Marechal Foch. There are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants around Ajaccio lined along tranquil beaches if you follow the seafront.
