Cisternerne, Copenhagen Overview

Cisternerne, a part of Frederiksberg Museums, is a space that exhibits contemporary art in the Sondermarken Park, a park located next to a cave under Frederiksberg Hill. The exhibition and the attraction combine art pieces, a fascinating illuminated old reservoir, and a cave.

Among the architectural features of the building are its high ceilings, granite floors with powerful pillars, bricked walls and concrete pillars. A subterranean reservoir built in 1856 enchants the visitor with its unique architecture, city history, and delightful atmosphere in which the art projects reveal their beauty. Known as the only dripstone cave in Denmark, Cisternerne is an urban cave of beautiful charm, snaking its way through a concrete ceiling made up of calcareous minerals. A museum of modern glass art has been inaugurated recently, connecting two glass pyramids and showing modern art exhibits. Various performances, including those by famous artists and architects, are organized at the museum.
