This town received a lot of limelight during recent years. On the way from Negombo, Chilaw is located 80 kilometers from the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. This town features diverse backgrounds, ethnicity, and religions living together in harmony and peace. It has plenty of things to see and do, and it is known for many reasons. 1. Munneswaram Temple: Recognized as one of the most important places in Sri Lanka, Munneswaram Temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. This temple acts as a pilgrimage center from February until the end of August, during the full moon.
2. Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary: Situated between the shoreline and the railway line of Negombo, Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary covers an area of approximately 1,400 hectares. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from November to December. Visitors get to see a lot of bird species, which will be a real treat for all the bird lovers.
3. Chilaw Beach Park: A perfect place to kick back and relax under the palm trees, Chilaw Beach Park boasts indigo blue waters and soft golden sands. Visitors can either go swim in the beach, walk on the soft sand, or just sunbathe for hours. There are also plenty of luxurious resorts lined along the beach.
