Christ Church of Chicago has its beginning as a Japanese - American congregation, but recently it is striving to re-establish itself as an Open and affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ. It welcomes the participation of individuals from various ethnic identity and backgrounds, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, socio-economic background, faith, and abilities. The Church also offers martial arts classes and organizes various cultural events such as the Kodomo no Hi (Festivals for Children), Akimatsuri ( Autumn Food Festival), Mochi Tsuki ( Traditional Japanese New Year’s Celebration).
