Pulau Biak, Indonesia Overview

Located in the Cenderawasih Bay in the Papua province, Pulau Biak or Biak Island is home to many corals, atolls and reefs. The largest island in the Biak-Numfor archipelago, it is a haven for diving and snorkelling enthusiasts. With a tropical climate throughout the year, the water temperature is excellent for diving and exploring the corals and wreckages. Expect to see schools of lionfish, schooling jacks, snappers and batfish among many others.

Other attractions at Biak are the Goa Jepung is a Japanese cave in Kota Biak, the Pantai Segara Indah and Pantai Anggopi beaches which are perfect for a quiet beach walk in the golden sand after which you can head to the Furama Restaurant or Warung Makan Barokah where you can get the best seafood at Pulau Biak. And don't forget to visit the birds at Taman Burung & Taman Anggrek after which you can go do some shopping at Pasar Bosnik where vendors from all corners of Biak display their products.

Most of Biak's population is concentrated in the Kota Biak and the rest of the island has small villages that are scarcely populated. The civilians here are Melanesians and they practice Christianity. The official language is Indonesian but the locals communicate in Biak, however Dutch and English are also spoken but not by many.
