Where do I go to get away from people?

Long Beach, right at the southern tip, reached by a rough road or by boat. Also Bang Bao and the far south generally. The further from the ferry pier you go, the emptier it gets.

Is the swimming good?

Generally yes on the west coast in the dry season. Some beaches shelve very gradually and go shallow at low tide, particularly Klong Prao, so check the tide if swimming matters more than the sand.

When should I visit?

November to April is dry and reliable. The monsoon from May to October brings heavy rain, some resorts close, and the ferries run a reduced timetable, though prices drop sharply.

How do I get to Koh Chang?

Bus or minivan from Bangkok to Trat, about five to six hours, then a ferry from Laem Ngop taking around forty-five minutes. Flights to Trat cut the journey considerably but cost far more.
