I had booked 7D trip to Meghalaya. Driver and Sedan car provided was good. Out (Read More) of the three stays, First one - Woodland hill stay at Shillong was like a home stay accommodation with limited meal option and complimentary breakfast was just one item. Food was ok. Second one - Riverside resort at Cherapunjee was like a hotel stay but very limited meal option and the location of the resort is far away from main road and the connection roads were not that good. Complimentary breakfast is just ok ok type with one main item. Third one - Treetops residency at Shillong was like a typical hotel stay with good meal option. complimentary breakfast is good with two items. In addition, so many hotels are near police bazar (shillong) where we can try different cuisines. Driver took us to the places as mentioned in itinerary for the first 4 days.
Remaining 3 days, driver told the tourist spots mentioned in the itinerary are n (Read More)ot that great and took us only to two places. As per the information provided upfront, parking fee is part of the package whereas during the travel, driver paid parking fee only in few areas and we paid in most of the spots. A clear communication about parking fee should have been provided to the driver and travels contact person should ensure that tourist spot visit as per itinerary is happening on daily basis. Since we were from Southern part of India, we were little hesitant to speak out and had language barrier to ask the same to driver.

Meghalaya Travel Essentials

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Meghalaya is from October to April, when the weather is clear and pleasant (15°C to 25°C), making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor exploration. May to September is the monsoon season, when the state receives heavy rainfall that turns waterfalls and valleys lush and dramatic — perfect for photography but not always ideal for long drives. Shillong, Cherrapunjee, and Dawki are enjoyable year-round, though light woollens are recommended even in summer.

Ideal Duration & Popular Itineraries
Meghalaya holidays usually last 5 to 7 days, covering the key hill, valley, and cave destinations. Popular formats include:

  • 5 Days: Shillong → Cherrapunjee → Mawlynnong → Dawki.
  • 6 Days: Adds Jowai or Laitlum Canyon.
  • 7 Days: Combines Meghalaya circuit with Guwahati for temples or Kaziranga safari.

Top Things to Do
  • Explore Shillong, the capital, for Ward’s Lake, Police Bazaar, and Elephant Falls
  • Visit Cherrapunjee (Sohra) for Nohkalikai Falls, Arwah Cave, and Mawsmai Cave
  • Walk the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat village
  • Visit Mawlynnong, known as Asia’s Cleanest Village
  • Take a boat ride in Dawki’s Umngot River, famous for crystal-clear waters
  • Visit Laitlum Canyon for panoramic views and light treks
  • Explore Jowai for Krang Suri Falls and Phe Phe Falls
  • Try local Khasi and Jaintia cuisine, including jadoh and dohneiiong

Top Destinations Combined with Meghalaya
Meghalaya packages are often combined with:

  • Assam (Guwahati and Kaziranga) for temples, safaris, and easy access
  • Arunachal Pradesh for extended Northeast itineraries
  • Nagaland for cultural experiences and the Hornbill Festival

Why Book a Package for Meghalaya
  • Transport ease: Packages include cabs and drivers familiar with local terrain and inter-town routes where public transport is limited.
  • Permit and route planning: Packages assist with inner-line permits (for foreigners) and ensure smooth travel through restricted areas.
  • Stay coordination: Packages secure verified stays in remote areas like Nongriat or Mawlynnong where accommodation options are limited.
  • Weather management: Packages plan itineraries flexibly around rainfall, especially for waterfall visits and treks.
  • Multi-destination convenience: Meghalaya’s attractions are spread out; packages provide efficient routing between Shillong, Cherrapunjee, and Dawki.
  • Value and safety: Inclusive transfers, stays, and local guides ensure hassle-free travel and better cost efficiency than independent arrangements.
