Yangtey, West Sikkim Overview

At an altitude of 6000 ft, Yangtey is a small village and an instance of paradise by monsoons, lying very close to the town of Pelling in Sikkim, famous for the amazing views of Mt. Kanchenjungha that it offers. The sceneries here are marked by magnificent peaks of the Eastern Himalayas, under an occasional cover of clouds. The ancient monasteries located at Yangtey are a great example of ancient art culture and quite a specimen to the past.

Yangtey is a petite hamlet just 9 kms from Pelling, lying nearby to many tourist attractions such as Khangchendzonga waterfalls, Khecheopalri Lake, Rimbi Waterfalls, Rabdentse Ruins, Sewaro Rock Garden, Temi Tea Garden, Geyzing, Legship and Pemyangtse. Apart from the splendid sight of the Himalayas, Yangtey also has a name for its beautiful Tashigang Resort lying amidst plush green gardens and lawns. You can either hire a bicycle or motorcycle to travel within the area. You can also simply walk to places. Guides are available in Pelling to take you for nature walks and monastic treks.

Yangtey has only one resort that is Tashigang Resort. The view of the sun rise from the resort and the varying hues of Mt. Kanchenjungha during sunrise is splendid. Itinerary For Yangtey

A trip to Yangtey is best combined excursions to Pelling. Reach Yangtey and check into a hotel. Then travel to the view point to enjoy the beautiful view of the ranges nearby. You can then go for nature walks in the late evening. The next day you can travel to Pelling and Pemyangtse Monastery. If you visit the monastery in January-February, you will also get to see the religious dance called Cham. After that, have lunch at a nearby restaurant. See the Khangchendzonga and Changey Waterfalls and then the Sewaro Rock Garden. While here, do not miss the Khecheopalri Lake.

How to reach Yangtey

  • Air: The Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport to Yangtey. It is 124 kms away from Geyzing. You will have to take a taxi from the airport to reach Geyzing and then another taxi from Geyzing to visit Yangtey.

  • Rail: The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station which is 140 kms away.ë_From there, taxis are available to get to Yangtey.

  • Road: Yangtey is at a distance of 2 kms from Geyzing, therefore if you are traveling from Gangtok, you can hire a bus and get down at Geyzing and then take a taxi from there to reach Yangtey.
