It is believed by the natives here, that the best beaches of the country lie in the southwestern coastal region, and one of the most beautiful beaches to exist there is the Ahangama beach. Things to Do at Ahangama Beach

Ahangama beach has many activities to offer visitors. Here is a list of things you can do:

Surfing
The Kabalana beach in Ahangama has high waves and the blue waters that provide the perfect place to surf. You will notice many people, both locals and guests, surfing away the calm and beautiful evening.

The Lazy Left is a reef break. It is, as the name suggests, slow and binds around the sandy beach. It is a beautiful place to begin your surfing journey. Another Reef Break is the Ram's Right that is not suitable neither recommended for beginners. The unpredictability of the waves are exciting for the professionals and pros as it tests their girth. It is a shallow area but perfect for surfing.

Jungle Tour
The local tour guides will be more than happy to take you on a jungle tour for a day. You will be able to experience what it is like to sleep under the sky in a hammock, waking up to birds chirping and monkeys jumping from one tree to the other, right above you.

The tour also comprises of having local food, enjoying a night with music and paddling in white waters.

Explore the Area
The locals have opened up small and big shops alike around the beach area. You can taste lip-smacking seafood and Sri Lankan curries here. You will also find many shops to buy souvenirs.

There are many bars here to enjoy the nightlife while sitting by the beach in the cool breeze.

Visit Handunugoda Tea Estate
The tea estate is a beautiful place to visit. You will see all varieties of teas growing here, along with other plants that have medicinal benefits. The store at the estate also sells some of the unique blends of teas.

Kathaluwa Temple
This old temple is taken care of by a monk. The inside walls of the temple are decorated with paintings from the olden days and depict stories of what life was like back then. If you are interested, you can also check out the religious books that are preserved to date.

Local Food at Ahangama Beach

There are many shops here that excel in making seafood and Sri Lankan cuisines. You should try their spicy and coconutty dishes if you are looking to get a wholesome exotic vacation experience!

How To Reach Ahangama Beach

You will find local buses coming to Ahangama every 15 to 20 minutes. 

If you want to get a more local experience, you can also avail the trains that connect Colombo and Matara and make stops at Midigama. You can take a bus from there or a tuk-tuk.

Flight services are from Koggala from Colombo, which is only a few kilometres from Ahangama. One can either avail a rented car or tuk-tuk or bus from Koggala to here.
