Vientiane City Pillar Shrine, Vientiane Overview

Vientiane City Pillar is a small sacred shrine located in the capital city of Vientiane in Laos. It symbolises the foundation of the town and is a holy place of worship for the locals. The city pillar shrine was completed in 2012, and now it is maintained by the department of Information Ministry of tourism and culture. It was constructed in this place as more than 400 pieces of the ancient stone pillar from the 5th century were found here. The pillar made the foundation of the city of Vientiane. It is a sacred place for locals who come to worship and seek good luck. They pray by placing flowers, fruits and incense on the pillar and wish for prosperity. Traditional ceremonies and rituals are held in this shrine on auspicious Buddhist days.

Vientiane City Pillar Shrine is located in the Phaiwat village in the Sisattanak district about 25 minutes away from the city centre of Vientiane. You can get there by hiring a Tuk-Tuk for about 5 USD for a round trip that can be shared as well. Or you can rent a motorbike daily for about 8 USD per day that would also give you the flexibility to combine multiple attractions.
