The Lao People's Army was built in 1976. It houses a wide range of military equipment and war weapons. The birth and history of the Lao's People Army are found in the museum's collections. A section has elaborate details of the rise of the Lao military against foreign invaders. The revolutionary war fought for over 25 years by the army against ethnic oppression could be known through a series of pictures, tools and weapons on display.

There is a section which focuses on the evolution of Laos after the liberation, the fight against communism including the formation of Laos Democratic Republic. A cinema hall inside the museum has regular shows on war documentaries and details of events in Laos history. There is a permanent gallery dedicated to the soldiers, which depict their bravery stories. There are statues of Laos military leaders, heroes of the wars, troop vehicles and warplanes outside the building.
