Sita Samahit Sthal, Varanasi Overview

Sita Samahit Sthal, in the Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh, around 54 km from Allahabad, is a Hindu temple and pilgrimage spot dedicated to Goddess Sita. It is believed to be the place where Sita descended into the earth, and holds both mythological and historical importance.

Relevance of Sita Samahit Sthal

It is believed that the present day temple is built at the same spot where Sita was spending her exile days with Sage Valmiki in the forest. Later, she also gave birth to her two sons - Luv and Kush here who eventually grew up to become warriors. So when later, Lord Rama sent up an entire army to besiege the area, the entire force was defeated by the two sons. When Lord Rama got to know that the two warriors were his own sons, Goddess Sita chose to immerse herself into the earth. Years later, this temple was built in that memory.
