The Mount Maunganui Hot Salt Water Pools is a top-rated Tauranga facility loved by tourists and locals alike. The hot pools offer therapeutic dips into salty ocean water, known to have healing properties, rebalance and detoxify the body and be extremely relaxing for the muscles. The temperatures of these pools can vary from 31ºC to 39ºC and are of two types, active pools and passive pools, wherein the latter has massage jets along the walls of the collections.

The facility also offers various other services like massage, fitness activities, a well-equipped gym, etc. The seawater used in these pools is retrieved from the Pilot Bay Jetty and then goes through a passive and active filter while passing through heat exchangers, wherein the hot water is retrieved from a 600-meter deep underground bore. The facility also has a separate spa and children’s pools to create a safer environment for them.

  • Private Pools: Visitors can book private pools with a minimum holding capacity of at least two people due to safety reasons, which each session lasting for half an hour. Children must be accompanied by adults. 

  • Massages: The Mount Maunganui Hot Salt Water Pools also offer therapeutic massages to those who’d wish to unwind and relax at the base of the mountains with their expert massage therapists and masseuses. There is a range of options available, each with a different price tag. Visitors can book single or multiple massage sessions, or can opt for massage therapy along with a swim included. Traditional massages like Relaxation, Remedial, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, Sports, Pregnancy, Thai, Reflexology, and the Couples Massage come at different prices depending upon the selected time range for each session. Specialty massages include Head Massage, Body Massage, Full Body Massage, Massage, and Mini Facial, Hot Stones Massage and the Couples Massage. 

  • Massage Vouchers: The facility also offers massage vouchers like the 30-minute massage at a rate of $50, the 45-minute massage for $70, the 60-minute massage for $85 and the 90-minute massage for $120. These costs and timings are always subject to change.

  • The Mount Hot Pools have strict rules and regulations which must be followed by the visitors at all times.
  • Clothing items like underwear, boxers, singlets, shirts, heavy shorts and trousers are not permitted inside the pools.
  • Visitors are prohibited from smoking, drinking or eating in and/or around the pools.
  • Even photography and videography must be done after taking prior permission from the staff.
  • The pools must ideally be vacated fifteen minutes before closure time.
  • It is advised for the visitors to keep themselves constantly hydrated because of the pool temperatures.

  • The Mount Hot Pools are located on 9 Adams Avenue at Mount Maunganui and can be reached by both private and public forms of transportation.
  • The peak, Mount Maunganui can be seen from any location in Tauranga and the pools are located right at the base, which lies at the end of the Maunganui Road.
  • Vehicles can directly access the location by taking the small roundabout on Adams Avenue and parking options are offered by the facility, although these tend to get filled up very quickly, especially during the summer and holiday seasons, which is why visitors are advised to be ready for a small walk towards the pool in case all the nearest parking spots get occupied.
  • The hot pools lie at a distance of around ten kilometers from the airport and one kilometer from the main town. A coach terminal can be found at a distance of one meter from the hot pools.
