Taipei Zoo

The Taipei Zoo has exhibits on animal and bird species from all over the world and is one of the largest zoos in Asia.

The zoo was opened way back in 1914. Its exhibits include animals from Asia, Australia, Africa and many other zones from all over the globe.
The most popular residents are the giant pandas. Yuan Yuan arrived from mainland China in 2008 under a cross-strait exchange programme, and her Taipei-born daughters Yuan Zai and Yuan Bao are on show with her. Her companion Tuan Tuan died in 2022. Giant pandas are classed as vulnerable and survive in the wild only in a handful of mountain ranges in central China, which is why very few zoos outside China keep them.
There is also a children's zoo, which has docile and usually domesticated animals such as pigs, ducks, rabbits and alpacas, among many others. Other dedicated exhibits are of the Asian and African rainforest areas, desert animals, insects, amphibians and reptiles, birds, and even penguins.
