Bengal Safari, Siliguri Overview

Officially known as North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Bengal Safari is a lush green wild park that is a part of the Salugara’s Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. Boasting of a rich and flourishing wildlife, the park offers its visitors to have a close look at the flora and fauna in their wilderness. Sprawling over an area of 297 hectares, the park is mainly a natural habitat for Sal and associated species. Among other common species found in the park are cats, leopards, tigers etc.

  1. Mixed Herbivore Safari

    In the mixed herbivore safari, the tourists are taken around the park to spot herbivores like Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Sambar, Hog Deer, Swamp Deer,One Horned Rhinoceros, Black Ibis, Kingfisher, Peacock, Red Jungle Fowl, Emerald Dove, Drongo, Hornbill and other birds.

  2. Tiger Safari

    Tiger Safari is a 15 min safari where you might spot tigers. There are a total of 3 tigers in the park 1 male and 1 female (Male- Shenasish, Female- Sheela) brought from the Nadankanan Zoological Park, Orissa. And there is another male tiger Viban which is brought from the Tata Steel Zoological Park, Jharkhand.

  3. Asiatic Black Bear Safari

    In the Asiatic Black Bear Safari, you can see the two black bears that have been brought from Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, Darjeeling. This safari is also a 15 min ride.
  4. Leopard Safari

    The 15 min Leopard Safari is around a 20 hectare area, you can visit the 4 leopards who live in the park (2 male, 2 female- Sachin, Saurav, Sital, Kajal).

    There is a foot trail at the park which is the Aviary Trail where you can spot domestic and exotic birds like Red jungle Fowl,  Peafowl, White Peafowl, and Peacocks etc.

    There is also a Gharial and Crocodile Pond where you can find gharials and crocodiles in natural free flowing water.

Tips

  1. Entry to the park is not allowed with plastic bags, polythene bags, plastic bottles and food.
  2. It is prohibited to play loud music inside the park.
  3. Playing games like cricket, football and other games is not allowed  in the park.
  4. It is prohibited to feed the animals inside the park. 
  5. Do not litter in the park, and do not enter any animal enclosure.
  6. Consumption of alcohol is prohibited.

Best Time to Visit

The most ideal time to visit the Bengal Safari is during the months of May, June, July and August. During these months, the weather stays pleasant and the safari is all the more convenient and enjoyable.
