Great Mosque, Semarang Overview

Central Java Great Mosque is a masjid in the city of Semarang in Central Java, Indonesia. It was built architect ir. H Ahmad Fanani and was fully established in the year 2006. The mosque sprawls over an area of 15 hectares or 25 acres with three central buildings arranged together in the shape of U. it is built in an architectural style that bears resemblance of the Javanese, Arabic and Greek lineage and culture. The mosque can accommodate over 15000 people at once!

The mosque has four minarets with a height of 203 ft. A unique architectural finish is found in the ‘joglo’ , a central roof that is  symbolic of a rising pathway to heaven and God’s divine blessings. The auditorium can hold upto 2000 people. The establishment of the mosque started in the year 2001 with the initiative of minister of religion Said Agil Husin al-Munawar. The mosque being a tourist attraction can be reached through trams and buses which are available at plenty in and around the city of Semarang. Other facilities of the mosque include library, auditorium and even huge magnificent mechanical umbrellas plonked within the premises.
