Day Trip to Otaru, Sapporo Overview
A canal town half an hour up the coast by rapid train, eight hundred yen each way, and a half day rather than a full one. The 1920s warehouses along the canal are the thing, though the walk itself is short; Sakaimachi Street behind it is pleasant but heavily commercialised. If you are here in February, the Snow Light Path lines the canal with candles.
