Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco Overview

Yerba Buena Island stands in the Bay of San Francisco, amid the Californian cities San Francisco and Oakland. The name of this Island is said to be inspired from the pueblo of Yerba Buena, whose name is taken from the plant 'Yerba Buena' (a local species of the mint family) which is plentiful in that region. The word Yerba Buena corresponds to a Spanish word meaning Good herb. Over the passing decades, the island was called with different names that are Sea-Bird Island, Goat Island, and the Wood Island.

The Yerba Buena Island lets you breathe in the fresh sea air. You can watch beautiful views of the Surrounding Bay area and the Skyline of San Francisco. This Island is a naturally formed geographical feature. It has a rocky topography making it a natural setting to enjoy. It has about five miles of trails, and around seventy-two miles of greenery spread across.

This Island is a part of the linkage between the cities. The Yerba Buena tunnel passes through the island and joins the eastern and western extents of San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge. A Bay Bridge toll is charged from travellers who visit the Island from the East Bay.
