Designated as the only natural lake in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Mountain Lake resides inside the Mountain Lake Park, located in the Richmond District. The lake can be reached via the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, which is named after the Presidio’s discovery by the Spanish settlers. The lake enjoys the presence of 65 bird species including crawdads, large-mouth bass, goldfish, carp, bullfrogs, turtles, seagulls and ducks. The lake area which is guarded by pines, firs and eucalyptus is equipped with picnic benches, playground and restrooms making it a perfect spot for picnicking.
